With their exams over and the end of their San Anton journey approaching, 76 Grade 12 students, along with 8 educators, embarked on an exciting trip to Thessaloniki, Greece. This adventure was packed with cultural experiences, breathtaking views, and thrilling activities, making it a memorable chapter in their lives.
The adventure kicked off with a full cultural immersion in Thessaloniki. The students and their educators started by visiting some of the city's most significant landmarks, gaining insights into its rich history and heritage. A highlight of their day was the Museum of Illusions, where they marveled at the mind-bending exhibits. The evening was capped off with a delightful dinner in the city centre, allowing everyone to savour the local cuisine.
The next destination was the awe-inspiring clifftop monasteries of Meteora, a UNESCO World Heritage site dating back to the 14th century. This incredible location is renowned for its stunning architecture and art, perched precariously on high cliffs, offering spectacular views and an unforgettable experience.
Their journey continued in the picturesque village of Athitos, where the group soaked in the panoramic vistas and natural beauty. The pristine waters of Flegra Beach called to them next, where they enjoyed a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters Greece is famous for.
An afternoon shopping spree added a fun twist to their day, with students exploring local shops and picking up souvenirs. The day ended with a Hawaiian-themed boat trip along the stunning Thessaloniki coast, providing an exciting and festive atmosphere.
Immersing themselves further in Greek history, the group visited Mount Olympus, exploring its ancient remains. A stop at the Dion Archaeological site and a visit to a museum and the charming village of Litohoro deepened their appreciation for Greece’s historical significance. Back in Thessaloniki, they ascended the Skyline Café, a 76-meter tower with rotating floors, where they enjoyed snacks and panoramic 360° views of the city.
The final full day was a celebration of nature's beauty. The students and their educators visited the Edessa waterfalls, a spectacular natural wonder beloved by both locals and tourists. The rejuvenating experience at the Pozar Thermal Baths followed, known for their soothing properties and unique natural setting, offering a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure.
To cap off their unforgettable trip, the students embarked on a much-anticipated Pirates-themed boat ride. This thrilling adventure along the coast of Thessaloniki was a perfect conclusion, leaving them with cherished memories of an extraordinary journey.
The Grade 12 trip to Thessaloniki and its surrounding wonders was an incredible blend of culture, history, and adventure. It was a fitting celebration of the end of an era and the beginning of new adventures for these students as they move forward in their lives.
