On Friday 20th January, after an absence of 3 years, San Anton School celebrated Pets Day, an old school tradition that is probably one of the most awaited days on the Early Years and Junior Sector School Calendar, coinciding with the feast of St Anthony the Abbot, patron saint of animals.
As the School opened its doors, the excited students, teachers, parents, and even grandparents streamed in excitedly with their pets or animal soft toys, whilst the amphitheatre was transformed into a menagerie of dogs, cats, tortoises, turtles, birds, goldfish, rabbits, hamsters, cats, dogs a horse and other exotic animals.
After Ms. Nicky, Head of Early Years, and Ms. Claudia, Head of Junior Sector welcomed all those present, Fr. Victor DeGabriele sj, led the children in prayer, and blessed their pets and soft toys.
The students and parents were then treated to a highly entertaining demonstration from theby Sergeant Major Ian Cuschieri, and his canine assistant, Sergeant Sky! Besides wowing his audience with a number of agility tricks, Sergeant Sky also appeared to perform CPR on his master and even posed for a selfie!
Pets day formed part of Animal Awareness week in which the students were engaged in numerous activities to raise funds for the various animal sanctuaries in Malta.
What a lovely morning that was and what a great community feeling!
