Sicilian Bread- Making Workshop for our Home Economics Students.

 

On the 23rd of November 2012 the Home-Economics department was visited by a Sicilian lady Maria Concietta Micieli who comes from the region of Ragusa.

This was a very unique opportunity for the Grade Eleven students as she was very happy to share with us some typical Sicilian culinary skills. Mrs. Micieli demonstrated the different bread shapes baked on typical feast days. The students not only had the opportunity to watch her but also to practise on their own piece of bread dough and make their own unique shape.

She later also demonstrated the making of Torrone which is a typical Sicilian sweet made with whole almonds, honey, sugar and cinnamon.

It was a very enjoyable afternoon indeed and all the students will surely remember the different skills they learnt.
