Cyber Crime Seminar

On the 26th of February, the Counselling Department at San Anton School held a talk for parents of children from Grade 5 to Grade 12 on Internet Safety. Inspector Paul Caruana from the Cybercrime Unit of the Malta Police Force addressed the parents present. He gave a brief overview of the Unit he runs, giving examples of how easily a child can fall victim to abuse on the Internet. Inspector Caruana also gave practical hints and advice to the parents present on how to monitor their child's internet use, as well as how to keep communication between parents and children as healthy as possible. Parents had the opportunity to raise their own concerns and give their suggestions.

This is the first step in a whole-school concerted approach to dealing with issues related to the Internet. Cyber bullying is currently being addressed with the Senior students.

After Easter, Inspector Caruana will be meeting up with the students to give them a talk which will highlight the dangers of Internet programs such as MSN, Hi5 and mobile phones.
