On the 17th May, our Grade 10 Biology students visited Buskett for fieldwork
Students had the opportunity of being biologists for the day as they were divided into groups and each group participated in various activites. They tested the pH and temperature of the soil and water in various locations. They identified and calculated the age of a number of trees and in so doing, discovered trees over 400 years old. Students also identified a number of plants and arthropods and worked out their frequency and percentage cover.
Besides its importance as an activity related to students’ MATSEC report requirements, this outing highlighted the validity of hands-on activity and investigation in reinforcing and deepening students’ understanding of the Biology syllabus covered in class.
