Past Activities

JOTI: 21-22 October 2006:

The World Scout Jamboree On The Internet (JOTI) is an international Scout Meeting on the Internet which takes places every year on the third weekend of October. This is an official event of the World Organization of the Scout Movement.  This year was the first time our scout group participated in the event. The school lab was converted into a communications centre with 10 computers connected to the event. It was a great experience for the troop as they contacted scouts from 31 different countries across 22 time zones! The cubs dropped in on the activity to watch as contacts were made across the globe. A large world map was hung and the places contacted were marked. The North District Commissioner and the Chief Scout visited during the event.

Halloween Overnight 06:

The weekend of the 28/29 th October saw the scouts and cubs camping overnight at school. Activities centred on the Halloween theme with pumpkin carving competitions for scouts and craft decoration of witch hats for cubs. Dressing up is always fun and lots of original gory costumes turned up on the day. Early Sunday morning the scouts enjoyed a scavenger hunt. Fr Bernard visited to celebrate thanksgiving Mass.

The group formed part of a parade through the streets of Mosta to the church where a thanksgiving mass was celebrated. After mass, light refreshments were served. 13 other Scout Groups from the North District took part in the activity.

An investiture ceremony was held on 25th November to welcome 1 scout and 7 cubs into the group. There were 3 cubs who had their ‘going up’ ceremony as they joined the scout troop. 5 ventures renewed their promise to the Scouting Movement as they moved from the troop to the venture unit.

Parents' AGM ‘06:

This was held on 11th November ‘06 and was an opportunity for parents to meet the new GSL and exchange ideas and information related to scouting. Unfortunately few parents attended this meeting.

Pasta Night:

A pasta night was held on 11 th November ‘06 and served as a get-together for scouts, parents, friends and relatives, as well as a fund raiser for much needed kitchen equipment. The evening started with an hour’s entertainment provided by the cubs and scouts where diverse acts were featured. These included modern and classical dance routines, a mime, a short play, a magic show as well as some musical excerpts played on guitar and piano. At the end of the performance all trouped to the canteen for a delicious meal which included 5 different types of pastas. A raffle wound up the evening. With over 160 attending, the evening was a huge success.

Girgenti Palace was fully restored between 1988-1990 and is now used as the official residence of the prime minister. It was opened to the public for the first time on the 4 th November ‘06. That day the Group toured the palace and learnt about its history.
