About Us About Us

‘Following the completion of the Sports Complex within the school premises in 2008, the San Anton School Board entrusted the San Anton School Sports Club to help the school care for and promote the new facilities’.

The Sports Complex consists of a four lane 200m oval Herculan SR Sprint athletics track conforming to IAAF standards, a large football pitch with artificial turf which could be sectioned into three five-a-side pitches as well as a multipurpose training pitch, long jump, tennis, basketball, volleyball, and a handball pitch all of which are floodlit.

The San Anton School Sports Club Committee is made up of members who are parents of children currently attending San Anton School. They voluntarily dedicate their time to organise the various sporting activities and promote sports throughout the school. The committee also has a representative from the School’s PE department who assists the committee in their work to promote sports within the School as a means of achieving a healthy and balanced lifestyle with opportunities for good recreation. The main scope of SASSC is to encourage and help our children perform in sports to the best of their ability.

Some of the aims and objectives from the Statute of the SASSC are to:

• To promote the participation in sports of San Anton School students at the school

• To increase the level of performance in sports of both San Anton School athletes and non-San Anton School athletes who will form part of the Club.

• To engage internal (San Anton School staff) or external coaches to coach / assist athletes as required

• To organise competitions at the school’s sports grounds and at other external venues

• To participate in events at regional, national and international level as a Club

• To attract outside athletes and sports enthusiasts of all levels to use the sports facilities on a pay-per-use basis

• To ensure that the SAS sports facilities and other ancillary facilities are adequately maintained after school hours as directed by the Board

• To purchase and maintain any other required equipment for the SAS and the Club.

• To organise fund raising activities and sports related agreements for the generation of funds for the Club and the School.

• To define which leisure and related activities the club shall promote and organise with a view to widen the scope of the club activities

Activities of SASSC

The club organises afterschool sports activities and currently runs coaching sessions in Athletics, Football, Handball and Tennis. The sessions are open to both boys and girls form Grade 3 upwards, and run from 15.00hrs to 16.30hrs. Places are limited and therefore applications are accepted on a first come first served basis. Sport tournaments are also occasionally organised, whereby external teams are invited to play against the San Anton School Teams.

Recent Activities

San Anton School Sports Club

The San Anton Sports Complex was buzzing with activity on Saturday 4th December 2010 as the San Anton School Sports Club (SASSC) and Football Frenzy organized a series of football matches for the children who participate in the afterschool Football program. There were over 60 children taking part in the games which ran from 12.00hrs to 14.30hs At the end of the afternoon the kids were quite exhausted but extremely pleased at having had the opportunity to participate in the matches which took place back to back on all of the three available football pitches at the San Anton Sports Complex.

On the 11th December 2010, students who participate in the Football Extra curricular Program will be playing at St Aloysius College on an invitation by Football Frenzy.

On behalf of the SASSC, I would like to thank all the parents and their kids for their support in our activities and we look forward to organizing other similar activities in the future.

SASSC President

The club has engaged top International Amateur Athletics Federation qualified coaches who cover the majority of athletic events including sprints, middle distance, jumps and throws. As a foundation for all other popular sports, athletics brings with it levels of fitness, co-ordination and self-discipline. The focus (especially for the younger students) would be fundamentals with the focus on ‘FUN’. The older students also have the opportunity to participate in athletic competitions at both club and national level.

The club has teamed up with FOOTBALL FRENZY for this sport. The curriculum is run on UK programmes which include English FA skills, Dutch Coerver Drills as well as Brazilian Skills. These programmes enable children of all ages and abilities to improve their skills with a strong element of fun and enjoyment.

Handball is a fast growing sport already practiced at San Anton in the past. The Staff Coaches of San Anton’s P.E. Department will be building on past foundations and further widening the appeal of this interesting sport through the afterschool coaching.

The Club has satisfied the growing interest in Tennis within various age-groups. Our Staff Coaches are providing the opportunity to students of all abilities to learn this wonderful sport in the afterschool school activities.
