Junior Sector Sports Day 2013

Sports Day for Grades 3 to 7 at San Anton School, this year was held on Thursday 18th April, while Field Day for Day-care, Pre-Grade, Grade 1 and Grade 2 fell on Tuesday 30th April.

As usual, the excitement levels were very high and all of the children were raring to go. After the traditional March Past by the four House Colours, accompanied by the cheering of a large number of parents in attendance, the Grade 6 students performed a display of gymnastics and dance. Soon after, the competitions began. The Grade 6 and 7 students left for their respective areas to play mini-tournaments in football, handball and basketball, while the Grade 3’s, 4’s and 5’s participated in their fun races on the football pitch.

In the afternoon we held the Athletics finals where students from Grades 5, 6 and 7 raced in 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m races respectively. School records were broken in most of the races, even though the very warm weather made it very arduous. At the end of the competitions, the Sports Day shield returned to the Yellow House after winning it back from the Green House. The Greens and the Reds finished tied for second place just a few points behind. A very close finish indeed!!

During Field Day for the younger grades, FUN was the most important element. The children participated in a number of fun activities prepared by their teachers, and with the help of a number of parent helpers, the children enjoyed a few hours of activities such as fishing for balls in a waddling pool, crawling under hurdles and balancing bean bags on their heads.

At the end of the day the parents took to the field to participate in a tug of war challenge.

A big well done to all the children for their effort and enthusiasm and a huge thank you to all the parent helpers who year after year help make Sports Day a huge success.
