Junior Sector Sports Day 2012

Thursday the 22nd of March was Sports Day for Grade 3 to Grade 7 at San Anton School, while the Field Day for Daycare to Grade 2 was held on Tuesday 27th of March.

As usual the children were all very eager to participate in this year’s events, and excitement was very high. On Thursday, the day kicked off with the traditional March Past by the 4 House Colours, to the cheering of the parents who came in large numbers to support their children. The next item on the programme was a gymnastics/dance display by all the Grade 6 students which was greatly appreciated by all those present. After the display, the Grade 3, 4 and 5 students participated in races involving various skills, while the Grade 6’s and 7’s took part in mini-tournaments in handball, football and basketball.

In the afternoon we had the finals of the athletics events, where Grades 5, 6 and 7 children who had qualified through heats during PE lessons, raced each other in various events.

At the end of the day, the Green House won the Sports Day shield from the Yellows, who had won the previous two Sports Days.

The Field Day for Daycare to Grade 2 was all about FUN! The Sports Complex at San Anton was divided into a number of game stations and all the children rotated from one activity to another under the guidance of their teachers and a number of parent helper. Activities included the Pancake Relay, obstacle games and fishing for balls in a wading pool.

The day came to an end with the now traditional games for parents. This year it was a show of strength – A tug of war for mummies and another one for daddies. It was now the children’s turn to cheer on their parents!

A big well done must go to all the children for their effort and enthusiasm, and a very big thank you to all the parent helpers who year after year help making Sports Day a huge success.
