This year, Sports Days in San Anton Junior Sector was held on Wednesday 16th March for Day Care to Grade 2, and on Thursday 17th March for Grades 3 to 7.
Sports Day is an event which all the children await eagerly. It is a day where fair play, sportsmanship, self-discipline and respect for rules are very high on the agenda. Moreover this day emphasizes the importance of exercise in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The first athletes on the track were the children from Day Care, who ran their races accompanied by their teachers. As we did last year, the sports complex was divided into a number of stations, and each class from Pre-Grade to Grade 2 rotated from one activity to another. This, under the guidance of their teachers and a number of parent helpers, whose help was paramount. Activities included hoop races, fishing for balls in a wading pool, obstacle games and parachute games. When all the children had had their go at the different activities, it was time for the mummies and daddies to run a 200m race on the track. It was now the children’s turn to cheer on their parents!
On Thursday it was the turn of the students of Grade 3, to 7 to exhibit their skills. Students in Grades 3, 4 and 5 participated in team races involving various skills, while the Grade 6 and 7 students took part in Athletics events and mini-tournaments in handball and football.
At the end of the day, when all the results were added, the Yellow House retained for another year the Shield they won last year. The Yellows were delighted and proudly showed off their prize to all the other students.
A big Well Done! must go to all the students for their efforts, and a very big Thank You! goes to all the parent helpers for helping make this year’s Sports Day a huge success.
