On Friday 18th January 2014 San Anton School`s Junior Sector celebrated an old school tradition by organising Pets Day on the feast of St. Anthony the Abbot.
As the School opened its doors in the morning, the excited students and parents streamed in excitedly with their pets, whilst the various common areas were transformed into a menagerie of dogs, cats, tortoises, turtles, birds, goldfish, rabbits, hamsters, cats, dogs, other animals. Dun Gorg Dalli, the School`s Spiritual Director told the story of St. Anthony the Abbot, patron saint of domestic pets and led the children in prayer to bless their animals.
The children, (in some cases assisted by their parents) proudly paraded their pets and were later treated to a demonstration by the Police Dog Squad and the Police Department`s Horse Section. The children were excited to see the horses trotting through the foyer making their way into the outdoor amphitheatre and a few lucky students managed to feed the horses carrots while others managed a ride!
Pets day formed of Animal Awareness week in which the students were engaged in numerous activities to raise funds for the various animal sanctuaries in Malta.
