All our Grade 2 ( Year 1) pupils are currently participating in a very exciting cultural and creative Project. This project is funded by Kreattiv and coordinated by Ms Alison Zammit Endrich – former San Anton Art teacher and all our Grade 2 teachers. The Kreattiv funding programme engages educators and creative practitioners in dialogue and collaboration while encouraging students and educators towards further engagement within the creative sector. Kreattiv aims to bring creative practitioners into schools to work with teachers and students to inspire, learn and create in a collaborative and innovative way.
Each grade 2 class will be visiting one of the following historical buildings - Mdina Cathedral, Verdala Palace, Fawwara Research Centre, Mosta Dome and Manoel Theatre, which will act as the source of inspiration for different stories which the children will write collaboratively. The stories will all be called “Who lived in this building?” and will be written down and then printed all together in a book as well as recorded as an audio book.
As part of the project, the students are visiting the Department of Digital Arts at the University of Malta, where they will see their illustrations take on a different dimension as the University students will show them how these images can be enhanced using computers. The pupils will also visit a printing press and learn all about the process of printing a book.
Sarah Spiteri, a renowned violinist will conduct a music workshop where she will guide the children on how to use their voice and percussion instruments to compose a soundtrack to each story. Actor Malcolm Galea will demonstrate how to read stories aloud using good voice projection and different tones of voice.
We are sure that this project will further enhance our young students’ learning experience as apart from instilling more awareness of our historical buildings, it will also give them more insight into the world of culture and creativity.
